I just installed Opera 5.0 Beta 8 for Linux. I was running Beta 7. I've only had the new Beta installed for a few minutes but one thing is for sure: IT'S F*CKING FAST!!!

I had one crash this morning - much better than Beta 7. It is still completely intolerant of questionable JavaScript.

You could install Linux for Sparc and then try to talk the Opera folks into porting to another platform (they already support Linux on x86 and PPC).

Except that last time I tried it (over an SSH session) I got some X protocol errors, you could set up some Linux based Opera servers and just use the Sun boxes as remote displays.

Now if they'd only come out with a Sun version, I could add it to MIT's browser locker to try to forestall the fifty complaints about Netscape I get every week. I really do get tired of people assuming Linux is the only unix in town. I have many hundreds of Sun machines to support.
Sorry, just venting. It's really a pain when you know that your institute-standard browser sucks rocks but it's the only game in town.

OK. It's definitely faster and it works on sites I couldn't hit before, like the DataComm Warehouse site. I'll add more towards the end of the day - with some input on crashing. Beta 7 would spontaneously crash about once an hour.
