In honor of my linking to Let's Be Personal, Allan Connery passed along a National Post commentary on how Canadians view Americans.
Canadians know Americans as well as an outsider can, far better than
those who unleashed the beast yesterday. To borrow from Winston
Churchill in Britain's darkest hour, a half-century ago, we have been
on their beaches, we have flown into their landing grounds, we have
played in their fields and on their streets. They are our friends, and
if as friends do, we have mocked them and caricatured them and been
too often too quick to separate ourselves from them in our own pained
quest for identity, we know the stuff of which they are made.

That one doesn't work either, as there's a space in the middle. Let's try this one.

The link in your item is defective – it contains a backslash that shouldn't
be there. Here's the link again:

We will not edit your comments. However, we may delete your
comments, or cause them to be hidden behind another link, if we feel
they detract from the conversation. Commercial plugs are fine,
if they are relevant to the conversation, and if you don't
try to pretend to be a consumer. Annoying endorsements will be deleted
if you're lucky, if you're not a whole bunch of people smarter and
more articulate than you will ridicule you, and we will leave
such ridicule in place.
