It's not elegant, but the AVI's look interesting. Of course, they also sell flying saucers and anti-gravity machines, or at least the plans for them. It belongs on the playa, but needs brakes.

Yabbut... If you have a flexible skirt and enough thrust, you don't need a perfectly flat surface. If you have an old vacuum cleaner and a stiff skirt (ala the plans in the back of Popular Science
or Boy's Life you need a flat surface.

Um... isn't that the point of hovercraft though? You don't need a perfectly flat surface(?)

Oh yeah. Screw the Segway, if they could make it without the two-stroke engine I want one of those.
And on the hovercraft, when I was a kid my dad and I actually got the three pontoons built, but the project stalled because we didn't have any flat surfaces to run it on, the pine floors in our house all had quarter inch or so gaps in between the boards, and the barns and the basement all had dirt floors.

Wow, that took me back. I remember making plans to purchase that Electronic Hovercraft kit (the one powered by a vaccuum cleaner) from the back of Boy's Life magazine.
