(I should also note that I went searching for the first three things I wanted to listen to, and of Susan Z, Michael Klapholz
and Walker T. Ryan, iTunes only knew about one album of the latter.)

Yeah, I'm thinking:
- Wipe the XP partition off the laptop and use the extra space for other
things, maybe offer up the XP serial number to one of the computer savvy
kids in my life so that they can take advantage of gaming with a legit
copy of Windows.
- Acknowledge that the Mac is a development box, not a lifestyle, and that
I shouldn't try to make it my primary computing platform because it's
still got too many annoying quirks to be my primary system.

You're thinking too hard, Dan. Here are the right answers to your troubles:
- Windows XP SP2 works fine on new hardware. Go buy a new laptop. My Dell has been running SP2 without a hiccup.
- Just go to the iTunes Store and buy AACs of all the music you want to listen to.
