BrainOpener is finally being updated! Two I found interesting:

  1. A list of how long various foodstuffs last. I'd like a little more detail on why they made some of their decisions, but it's interesting in conjunction with my current reading of On Food And Cooking[Wiki](2nd edition).
  2. htmlunit is a Java[Wiki] framework for building web robots that knows about JavaScript[Wiki].

There are a number of things there that made little sense to me, and that I'd like to follow up on when I have the time. Why, for instance, would a Hershey bar go bad after a year but olive oil be good for two? And what's their criteria for calling dried pasta bad after a year? Or giving honey an indefinite shelf life (uhhh, mine always starts to crystallize) and not maple syrup (which may need a re-filtering, but...).

Why does soda have a shelf life unopenned but lasts indefinitely when openned?
