I just saw SketchUp demonstrated. This looks like a great 3d mockup tool, after the demo I just saw I want it to sketch out the shed we need to replace.

Fortunately for me, they have a $49/year academic license... $495 is way out of my budget!

Looks really beautiful, and it's exactly what I need for a private project or two that I'm working on. Unfortunately those private projects do not have, shall we say, a revenue stream attached, and five hundred bucks is a little steep for something for my own use.

Yeah, I only saw it used a little bit, and it's a bit pricey for the application I have right now (although about a tenth the price of AutoCad), but it does dimensioning, it seems to do pretty arbitrary shapes (although it rocks with rectilinear stuff), and I was wondering what kind of a 3d pipeline you could build up if you fed basic block models created with it into ZBrush.

I've been looking for something I can make simple 3D drawings in. I'm not interested in all of AutoCAD or Maya. What I'd like to be able to do is make plans that I can export in DXF for the CNC lathe downstairs and be able to sketch buildings to integrate with ArcScene. Both of these, it appears, SketchUP does in spades.
