Way back in 1998 I noticed PerlFS and it's been on my radar since.
In the intervening years the concept has expanded into Filesystem in Userspace (FUSE), which lets user programs create different data views that can be seen through the filesystem.
Elf reports that one such extension lets you mount your iPod and view it by different categories. I don't have an iPod
or time to play with such hacks right now, but I can see that I need to get my Linux
laptop fixed, 'cause that's where the cool technologies are happening.
