This is my first attempt at trying to build a Wiki-like knowledge base on top of the Flutterby content management system.

This is a place for explanation, description and static links on a topic that's either too broad to be covered under a single link, or that you're just too lazy to find the real link to.

Waldorf schools

by:Dan Lyke [edit history] started: 2003-05-06 18:15:27.030491+02 updated: 2003-07-18 22:48:27.959161+02

Waldorf schools were developed by the philosopher Rudolf Steiner[Wiki] at the behest Waldorf Cigar company for the children of its workers. Based on Anthroposophy[Wiki], they have a curriculum strong on art, with multiple languages from kindergarten, and learning to read and write relatively delayed.

They are currently the second largest organization of private schools in the world, behind Catholic schools.

I went to the Great Barrington Rudolf Steiner School for Kindergarten, and the Hawthorne Valley School for 1st through 7th grade. I'm still of mixed feelings over the school, part of my rebelliousness to education comes from an incident where the teacher was clearly quoting philosophy over reality, and I got some public smackdown in front of my peers for fact checking, but overall I think it sucks less than many of the alternatives.
