New breed of TV Ads.

2002-07-18 05:13:35+00 by meuon 9 comments

Pop Up Ads may not only be on the web.. but on TV as well. 5-10 second pop-up ads DURING the show.. TNT tested them and reportedly did NOT get much flack. Whats next, scrolling ads on the top and bottom of a letterbox format movie?

MTV has been doing this for a year; during Tough Enough 1 (I'm bgeeking out hard here) they would run a bar over the top of the screen, covering up some of the actual show! Just to advertise the bands that were playing on the show! They probably do it more now, but really, who over 15 watches much MTV anymore?

What bugs me more than the pop-ups is the reduction of the credits at the end of a show to postage stamp size so they can run a promo for the next show. If i were a member of a craft union I would be very pissed at having my credit made unreadable.

I'm the wierd guy at the movies who reads all the credits at the end. I learn a great deal about the film from it, and I resent having that ability removed even on HBO.

petronius; you're not that weird. I've noticed quite a few people wait through the credits in the theatres these days.

Those of us whose rapidly dwindling 15 minutes include a line three and a half minutes in to a 5 minute credit roll appreciate your patience. [grin]

Heh. I've seen that credit roll, Dan. In fact, it may do your heart good to know that Debby and I applauded for you.

Actually, what's scary is how MANY names we know from the average Pixar credit roll.

Friends and I have stayed to watch your credit (and a friend who worked on Shrek). It's so cool saying "I know that guy!" (well, that sounds better than "I've read that guys weblog for years")

Dan. In Chattanooga we cheered and cried as your name crawled by. Everyone else thought we were nuts. F. Them. I was proud of you.

Wow. Rendering software developer (you made me go hunt for it instead of mentioning it here ;-) I actually broke out our Toy Story 2 DVD to check. Very cool!

I usually stay for the credits but I don't actually read them so much any more. A combination of not knowing anybody who works in the biz and not being able to keep up with the double-columns of scrolling names has me mainly staying as a small gesture of respect. (That and I keep hoping more movies will do the Ferris Beuller thing and have a little extra nugget at the end ;-)

If anybody wants to see my name scrolling by, Katrina and I are supposed to be listed along with all the other fan credits on the Fellowship Of The Ring DVD that will be out this November (the big one, with all the extras - and maybe on the one released in August - I don't remember). The listing came as part of joining the LOTR Fan Club.
