Tee hee hee. Phyllis Schlafly and Nadine Strossen co-author a letter to the editor of the NY Times. When those two agree that the proposal put forth by Senator Richard J. Durbin, Democrat of Illinois, for standardized drivers licenses is a bad idea, I think it's safe to assume it's a bad idea.

Isn't she kind of the model for Betty Bowers?

At first glance, I thought this was serious...
Now I am wiping the tears from my face, quotes
like 'Four Horseman and a whore (whether from Babylon or Reno)'
and 'BITCH: Bringing Integrity To Christian Homemakers'
just make me want to see this lady on the 700 Club.. :)

On topic though... didn't we have a Civil War over states rights to be different?

To some extent the driver's license has become the de facto national ID. I didn't get one until I was 40, and it gave me some trouble. My picture ID from a large medical center helped somewhat, but i never bothered to get a state-issued ID.
Hoever, asking that some states toughen up their standards should reduce the misuse of their own DLs. I too am creeped out by the idea of national IDs, but in a world filled with fraud vendors are right to ask for something.
I also wonder of both Schlafly and Strossen went to their homes and took showers after writing the letter.
