linux v mswin

Karen's ms cptr was doing terrible things, so I stuck ubuntu linux on it to try to recover her working data before it went up in smoke. Ubuntu's now running flawlessly, and when I plugged in an old HP laserjet 1000 that's hadn't worked since Win 98, it popped right up. Why does anyone who has the choice stick with MS?

I recall having to do something similar in the past. I was upgrading a window xp box with a new license key and it refused to recognize the old ntfs volume for some reason. I ended up booting a knoppix dvd, mounting the ntfs filesystem and burning about three dvds (data). One and done, Linux rocks!

PS And I was playing around with BackTrack 5 last night, sharpening my wifi troubleshooting skills. N is going to be a mess.

Go back to Version 10.10 or 10.04, Unity is not baked yet.

Crap, I'm not sure 'cause I run Xubuntu (which puts those links in the main menu under "System"), and Charlene's update for some reason didn't run the new window manager, the reasons for which I haven't dug into yet.

Having said that ... I just upgraded to 11.whatever, and now I can't see the handy links that used to be at the top of the screen for admin tasks. Anybody?, anybody? Bear with me, I'm a duffer.
