Secret balloting is a good idea

Secret balloting is a good idea. Please don't create social pressure by posting photos of your ballot. The cause you help may be your own.

I haven't checked all the details, but my impression is that it's illegal here in California, for the same reason. And many other states.

And the rationale behind those laws is exactly why we shouldn't get in the habit of disclosing our votes, even as we campaign for things and probably even say "I voted for X".

In Illinois photographing your ballot is illegal. The theory is that you will use the photo to prove to the ward heeler that you are fully deserving of your bribe. Of course, actually catching somebody doing it is rather difficult.
