NASA has found water ice on molten Mercury, as well as organic molecules. If the main ingredients of life can be found in the Dantean environment like that, surely we will find them in abundance in more hospitable places, like some of the exoplanets we are daily discovering. The issue may not be whether or not life exists off-Earth, but rather how much exists.
Carl Sagan would have been so happy.

I recommend Kim Stanly's 2312, where the main city of Mercury rolls along a track set up around the entire planet, always keeping just inside the dark zone.
