Digitizing old square dance 45s. The standard seems to have been 130BPM. Y'all look out, I'm gonna be calling fast...

Dance style matters a lot. Disco is about 108, there's a lot of 160-180 EDM.

I've seen some sources suggest that 150 BPM is about the biomechanical cut-off for running vs walking, although modern shoes may be lengthening strides, because other sources claim 130 BPM is a 12 minute mile, which is still in the "slow jog" territory.

130 BPM sounds like a totally reasonable dance music tempo to me, a hair on the laid-back side. I'm a little surprised that square dancing goes that fast at all, but it makes sense that humans would find similar tempos appealing for similar energy levels no matter what the style of dancing they are into.
