According to my fancy dancy scale, and assuming that the whole bloating from poison ivy thing has subsided, over the last few weeks I've gained 6 pounds (160 lbs) but stayed stable in my body fat percentage (15%). Wouldn't hurt to drop that to 13-11%, but still... wacky.

Years ago when i was producing medical programs I recorded a dermatologist who had a special interest in poison ivy and oak. His favorite slide was a picture showing poison ivy growing on the "parking reserved for Sherriff" sign in front of the Kokomo Indiana County Courthouse. I don't know if it said more about the sloppy groundskeeping in Kokomo or the Sherriff's dogged determination to keep his parking space open.

I believe that the poison oak out here also grows as a bush, something that poison ivy in upstate New York that I grew up with never id.

They're very closely related, and you can basically consider them interchangeable. The only difference is that poison oak has rounded leaf tips.

Poison oak. Still urushiol as the critical oil, but: yeah, you're right, I've been out here nearly a decade and I'm still not absolutely certain which plant it is. I've narrowed it down to a group of a few, but if all of those are carriers then the species is pretty damned diverse.

Hey Dan, was it really poison ivy, or was it poison oak? Having lived for 43 years on the east coast before moving to the left, I can recognize poison ivy in all stages of its life cycle with ease, but pretty much have no clue about poison oak. I understood, though, that there isn't any poison ivy out here, only poison oak. Did you manage to find some anyway? (Just trying to calibrate properly...)

Apparently you have added muscle and padding at the same rate.. Not a bad thing. Or your scale is off due to humidity, lunar pull, weighty karma..
