I think Pollan's doing a pretty good job of backing Whole Foods into a "put-up or shut-up" situation. And his book does a really good job of laying out the "industrial organic" situation.

And I know of two families that have no issues at all with shopping at Wal*Mart, but go out of their way to buy organic.

"Industrial Organic".....I love it. The problem is that for the critics the idea of a mass market healthy supermarket is so oxymoronic that they will never measure up. When the Whole Foods guy agrees with Pollan, Pollan accuses him of doing so as a marketing ploy. You can't win for loosing.

The idea of WalMart selling organic food is also a bit strange. Most of the people who care enough to want organic don't like Walmart for a variety of reasons, the tacky poor people shopping there not being the least. And if working class folk begin to eat healthy food, a lot of beautiful people will begin to take up pork rinds to maintain their distance.
