mixed marijuana messages

Short on the heels of the news that marijuana can exacerbate symptoms in pyschotic people, we find that cannabis chemical curbs psychotic symptoms, study finds.

... "One possibility is that there are good guys and bad guys within cannabis," said Markus Leweke, of the University of Cologne. He and his team compared the effects of CBD and a leading anti-psychotic drug, Amisulpride, on 42 patients with schizophrenia. After four weeks the symptoms of both groups had improved, but those treated with CBD suffered fewer side-effects.

The misconception is thinking that it's just one substance/drug. There's more than just THC, there are hundreds of cannibinoids in marijuana. Not all have been studied. It is entirely possible that different chemicals in marijuana are causing the opposite effect.

Just supplying some scientific rigor/scepticism.

Yeah, I've seen at least one person go through some bad SSRI reactions and... well... it dwarfed any bad LSD trip I've ever seen, especially since the symptoms went on for a hell of a lot longer than an LSD trip. Several days.

SSRIs scare me now.

Huzzah for the day for anyone who can name a psychotrope which does not have idiosyncratic effects in some individuals.

Valium fails because it sometimes causes anxiety. Haldol occasionally produces hyperactivity, mania, anxiety and insomnia (one off label use is as a sleeping pill, particularly for the aged). We have all heard about the SSRIs, although there is controversy over if they truly can make an individual suicidal, or the too depressed to commit suicide just get better enough to take on an actively suicidal role.

Just name a mood altering substance that doesn't sometimes have an opposite reaction.
