I'm not generally a law and

I'm not generally a "law and order" kind of guy, but can we give the FTC Do Not Call enforcers carte blanche w/shotguns and no-knock warrants?

VOIP + DNC > 1 cold call in 4.7 years.

I just dumped the landline and am using only cellphones now. I figure they'll start hitting cellphones soon but maybe I've bought myself a one year reprieve.

Several local charities use robodialers to announce "We will be in your area for a charity pickup, please let us know if you have anything to donate." It happens 2-3 times a week.

Of course election time is especially annoying.

Is this a regional issue, or doesn't anybody want to talk to me? I signed up for DNC some time ago, and the number of calls dropped radically. They tend now to be either from people I've already had dealings with, who are exempt, or charities, but perhaps my curmedeonly refusals have finally hadtheir effect. I am happy that our current mayoral campaign in Chicago hasn't produced much in robo-calls, like last year's congressional election did. I am spared hearing, "Hey youse! Dis is "knuckles" Maldonado, chief union steward for the Amalgamated Garbage Hauler's Broderhood, asking for your support of Honest Joe Wynsoki in the Forty-turd Ward...."

Get one of those "out of service" tone generators. When you see the suspect info on caller id, hit the button on the box. The machine dialer will recognize the tones and remove your number from their list.

I'm doing this the hard way: I run a digital PBX (Asterisk) on an old P4 and my PIAF installation includes a black list which is linked to the SIT tone. After a few months, I vastly reduced solicitation calls.
